Two local fire departments were called to stop a blaze near Heckston Tuesday afternoon.
The fire happened at a farm on Boundary Road in Mountain.
North Dundas and North Grenville firefighters arrived on the scene at 12:15 PM to find the barn “fully engulfed,” according to North Dundas Fire Chief Raymond Sherrer.
The farm’s owner, Brigitte Grimes, said she was in Kemptville when the fire started.
“My boyfriend was here,” she explained on the scene. “Somebody came to tell them that it was on fire. It actually had started at the back of the building, away from us. He and a neighbour tried to get some of the animals out but couldn’t.”
Grimes says her boyfriend was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.
Fire Chief Sherrer urged residents to stay off Boundary Road until 6:00 PM Tuesday to give firefighters space to do their jobs.
