Spirit of Giving event collects food, toys and money for three local charities

The community support for Moose FM’s Spirit of Giving radiothon was uplifting and exciting, according to the people benefiting from it.

The event, held on Saturday, November 18th, collected donations for the Salvation Army, House of Lazarus, and Canadian Tire Jumpstart.

“Kemptville has always been a very generous community,” explains Salvation Army Pastor Calvin Wong. “We’ve been here about ten or eleven years now, and every year we’re just amazed at how the community comes out to support local charities.”

This was the second annual Spirit of Giving event at Canadian Tire. New store owners Rick and Jan Johnson say it was exactly what they hoped for. “You can’t ask for anymore,” Jan Johnson added.

House of Lazarus Executive Director Cathy Ashby called they day “amazing,” and said it was great to see people making donations.

“All of this will help us get through the Christmas season, for sure,” Ashby said.

The final fundraising total is still being added up. The Johnsons also made personal donations of $1,000 to the Salvation Army, and $500 to the House of Lazarus.
