Health Unit launches new at-home HIV test program

Anyone older than 16 in our region can now test themselves for HIV at home, for free.

The Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark District Health Unit has launched a new initiative letting people request testing kits for the disease.

Staff members say the test requires a small blood sample that gets applied to a device included in the kit, which analyzes your blood for HIV antibodies.

The kits, provided by an Ottawa-based organization called GetaKit, also include requisition forms for other STI tests that you can take to your local lab or clinic.

Testing kits are completely free, and you don’t need a health card to request one.

You can complete an online risk assessment form and request a testing kit on GetaKit’s website.
