Remembrance Day ceremony and parade scheduled for Saturday

Part of downtown Kemptville will be closed to traffic for a Remembrance Day parade and ceremony this weekend.

Dave Wright, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 212 helping to organize the parade, says Prescott Street will close between Water and Mary Streets from roughly 10:00 AM until noon on November 11th.

“It’s a very simple detour,” he says. “If you’re coming along Prescott, you’re going to turn left on Water, right on Thomas, right on Mary, then left on Prescott. And, of course, reverse that if you’re going northbound.”

Wright says the ceremony is being condensed and should be shorter than in previous years, to accommodate aging veterans.

“If you know veterans like I do, most of them will be standing during the whole ceremony,” Wright explains, “and the last thing we want to do is tire them out or get them chilled and cold. We don’t want them uncomfortable.”

The ceremony is happening at the cenotaph outside the old North Grenville District High School building.
