Deer hunting season begins next week, United Counties warn

Try to wear something reflective or fluorescent if you’re visiting Limerick Forest in the coming weeks.

Deer hunting season within Ontario Wildlife Management Unit 66A, which includes the forest, opens on Monday, November 6th.

According to a notice on the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville’s website, anyone visiting the forest while hunting season is open is being urged to exercise “extreme caution.”

High-visibility clothing is also recommended, even for non-hunters, so that they aren’t mistaken for wildlife.

The first deer hunting season, which is open to people with rifles, shotguns, muzzle-loading guns and bows, is open until November 20th.

After that, only bows will be allowed for hunting until December 3rd.

Muzzle-loading guns and bows will be allowed in the forest from December 4th through 10th, and then deer hunting will be restricted to bows only for the rest of the year.

You can view a map of the trails in Limerick Forest, including a breakdown of where hunting is and isn’t allowed, on the United Counties website.
