OPP receives $128,000 to expand Mobile Crisis Response Team

The Grenville County OPP detachment’s Stephen Neufeld is thanking the government for paying to help support people dealing with mental health crises.

The detachment has received a $128,000 grant to expand its Mobile Crisis Response Team, which sees officers and nurses helping people dealing with mental health emergencies.

Police say the team has responded to more than 1,200 calls since the program started in 2021, and members also run crisis intervention training courses in the Leeds-Grenville area.

“Grants such as these will support our Community Safety and Well-Being Plan and ensure our joint community outreach program continues to be an effective and proactive method to respond to mental health issues within our communities,” explains Detachment Commander Neufeld.

The program launched in 2021 as a collaboration between police and the Brockville General Hospital (BGH).

Shawn Souder, BGH’s Director of Mental Health and Community Programs, says his team is proud of the positive impact the program has had since its launch.

If you’re struggling with your mental health and want to speak with a member of the team, you can call the Kemptville OPP station at 613-258-3441.

We’ve arranged an interview with Mobile Crisis Response Team members Annie Collins and Dave Holmes to learn more about the program, and how the money will be spent.
