Cholly Boland says raising the money needed to build the new Dundas Manor long-term care facility has been difficult.
“We’re a lot of the way there,” he says. “We’ve raised almost $12 million, but that last bit continues to be a challenge.”
Boland, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the manor, says his team needs about $6-million more, and the upcoming Grand Parade event will help bring them closer to their goal.
The parade is a national campaign, raising money for causes supporting seniors.
“There’s actually, I think, 200 locations across Canada who are participating this Saturday,” Boland says, “And, as things stand right now, we are number one in terms of fundraising of all those 200 locations. So, I’m very proud of that, but we need to keep the work going.”
At time of writing, the initiative has brought in $66,194, surpassing organizers’ goal of $45,000.
The event will see participants, who have been collecting donations online, take to the streets of Winchester to walk a five kilometre route through the town.
It’s scheduled for Saturday, with check-in at 10:00 AM and the walk set to start at 11:00 AM.
