Spencerville Agricultural Society talks work put into this year’s Spencerville Fair

Eric Connell says his team is extremely excited and extremely tired as they kick off the 168th Spencerville Fair.

Connell is the Executive Director for the Spencerville Agricultural Society, the group responsible for organizing the annual event.

“We are a small group of volunteers that have worked tirelessly over the last few weeks,” Connell says, “burning that midnight oil and the candleflame and all that fun stuff. So, we’re ready, but we’re tired, and we’re gonna have an excellent fair.”

The fair runs this weekend, with attractions like truck and tractor pulls, live music all four nights, and a parade.

New to the fair this year is a locally made “Spencerville Fair Vodka,” with proceeds going towards the Agricultural Society to put towards events like next year’s fair.

“Using the corn that’s grown here in Maitland, Ontario, it was distilled in Johnstown, and it’s being sold in Spencerville,” Connell explains. “So, it’s all within a 25-kilometre radius, which is incredible. You can’t get much closer to local than that.”
