MPP Steve Clark steps down as Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing

Steve Clark will continue to be our region’s MPP but has stepped down as the province’s housing minister.

Clark announced his resignation on social media Monday morning, posting a letter he sent to Premiere Doug Ford.

“In a parliamentary democracy,” the letter reads, “the Parliament is supreme, and the legislature will determine my ultimate reprimand.”

Clark has been under fire since early August, when Ontario’s Auditor General released a report saying his Chief of Staff showed bias when choosing what lands would be removed from the Greenbelt.

Since then, his chief of staff has resigned, and the province’s Integrity Commissioner has also released a report calling for Clark to be reprimanded for failing to oversee his staff during the land swap.

Clark first became Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing in 2018. Premiere Ford thanked him for his years of service in the position in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) Monday morning.
