“Healing Shed” being raffled to raise money for KDH Foundation, Minwaashin Lodge

A shed painted by an Ottawa-based Indigenous artist is being raffled to raise money for two local charities over the next few weeks.

The raffle is being organized by Craig McCormick, as part of his annual “Orange Up Paddle Day” initiative supporting Minwaashin Lodge, an Ottawa-based shelter for Indigenous Women and Children escaping violence.

“The draw date is the 30th of September,” McCormick explains, “so, two weeks after [Orange Up Paddle Day] unless we have the rain date on the 23rd, which coincides with National Orange Shirt Day.”

Tickets for the raffle cost $20, with the proceeds being split between the lodge and the Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) Foundation’s “Wellness Access for Youth” program.

Aurora Jade, the artist who created the murals inside the shed, says she stayed up for roughly 20 hours straight painting the artwork.

“I’m happy with how it turned out,” she says. “I think it turned out really beautiful, there’s a lot of meaning behind everything.”

If you want to see the shed for yourself and learn all the locations you can get tickets, you can find it outside MotorTrendz on County Road 43 in Kemptville.
