North Grenville Municipal Centre lobby opens as cooling centre amid heat warning

With humidex values in the low forties expected this week, North Grenville municipal staff members are offering residents a way to cool down.

Staff members say the air-conditioned arena lobby at the North Grenville Municipal Centre is open to the public, and any residents struggling with the heat are free to visit and stay inside.

You’re also encouraged to drink plenty of water, and be mindful of cramps, fainting, exhaustion, and other signs of illness or heat stroke.

Environment Canada issued a heat warning for the Leeds-Grenville region Tuesday.

Temperatures in the low thirties during the day and the high teens and low twenties overnight are also in the forecast.

You can find more advice on how to avoid heat stroke and other complications on the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit’s website.

According to Environment Canada, our region is expected to start cooling down Friday.
