Agricultural Area Review: new consultation announced, first draft map available

The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is moving towards the next stage in its Agricultural Area Review.

The first draft report from the “Land Evaluation and Area Review” process, which began last November, has been released.

According to the report, the Counties’ current agricultural land designations were established in 2015 and weren’t comprehensive.

The review is being carried out so United Counties staff can learn if any changes are needed, so valuable farmland can be protected before housing developments are built on it.

A new public consultation meeting is being held in June so residents can learn what the report has found and what the next steps are for protecting Leeds-Grenville farmland.

It’s happening June 21st at 4:00 PM. You can either attend virtually or in person at the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville’s office in Brockville.

The United Counties website details for how to attend the consultation virtually, and a copy of the draft report you can read.
