LGTIRL Green Party announces protest rally outside Steve Clark’s office

Members of the Ontario Green Party from Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes (LGTIRL) are planning to show solidarity with farmers at a protest this week.

Local Ontario Greens President Steve Gabell says members of his party will be hosting a rally outside MPP Steve Clark’s office to protest Bill 97.

“Across the province 319 acres of farmland are being lost every day,” explains Gabell. “The measures in Bill 97 to make it easier to sever lots on agricultural land threaten to cause the loss of even more productive farmland and do not address the housing crisis in Ontario.”

He adds that protections for agricultural lands need to be strengthened.

“Ontario Greens stand with leaders from agricultural associations in opposing Bill 97,” Gabell concludes. “The housing crisis needs to be addressed by building affordable, connected communities where people actually want to live, not by making it even easier to build low density sprawl.”

The rally is scheduled to begin at noon on Wednesday, May 31st, outside Steve Clark’s constituency office in Brockville. We’ve reached out to Clark for comment.
