Flags lowered to honour former Grenville County OPP Officer killed in Bourget

Mayor Nancy Peckford says she’s offering her condolences to the family of OPP Sergeant Eric Mueller.

Mueller, who used to work for the Grenville County detachment, was shot and killed in the line of duty Thursday morning in Bourget. Two other officers were also shot and are in the hospital.

“This is a devastating development for our region and in particular, for the OPP community.” Peckford says. “We also wish the two other officers a quick recovery and are keeping them in our thoughts and hearts.”

Deputy Mayor and Police Services Board Chair John Barclay says this tragedy hits close to home.

“Most of us will never know the risk police officers take when they go to work each and every day,” Barclay says. “We honour Sgt. Eric Mueller who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of public safety.”

The flags outside the Municipal Centre have been lowered to half-mast in Mueller’s memory.
