OPP recognizes May as Motorcycle Safety Month

Ontario Provincial Police hope this year will be much less tragic than last, when it comes to motorcycle fatalities.

OPP is marking May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Its head office says last year 44 motorcycle riders lost their lives in collisions on OPP-patrolled roads. It was the highest number of deaths since 2017.

The police force says failing to yield, excessive speed and inattentive driving are among leading causes in motorcycle deaths over the past 10 years. It says in 61 per cent of these cases, the motorcyclist was at fault.

OPP is urging motorcyclists to be responsible, defensive, attentive, and alcohol and drug-free through the riding season.
