Rideau Valley Conservation Authority issues flood watch

Significant rainfall over the first days of April might lead to some flooding in the Kemptville Creek.

That from the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, which has issued a flood watch statement for the entire Rideau Valley region.

According to the organization, 20 to 30 millimetres of rain is expected to fall on Saturday, with mild temperatures and more rainfall expected over the next week.

That’s expected to cause water levels to rise all across the Rideau River, with possible flooding in and around Kemptville, North Gower and Kars.

Residents are being warned to be extremely cautious around any bodies of water, and to inform their kids of the risks of playing near them. Motorists are also being urged to be careful, since the weather could cause some roadways to flood.

People who live in flood-prone areas are also being urged to make sure they’re prepared by making sure their sump pumps work properly, securing anything that could float away in a flood, and having a backup generator and pump on standby.

The flood watch statement is in effect until April 11th, but the organization plans to provide updates if the situation changes before then.
