The provincial government is looking to anglers for feedback on a proposed change to Ontario’s recreational fishing rules.
Under the current regulations, if you catch a fish that’s prohibited to possess, you need to release it immediately, and any activities that would delay that release are illegal.
Those rules cause problems for things like catch-photo-release fishing tournaments, or casual anglers wanting to weigh, measure and photograph an interesting catch.
Ontario Fish and Wildlife is proposing a change to the regulations that would explicitly allow you to delay your release to take photos, measure and weigh the fish.
A survey is being run to collect input on the proposed change.
You can find more information and a link to fill it out here.
The deadline is April 21st.
