Rideau St. Lawrence Thunder merging with Kemptville Storm girls’ hockey organization

Two local girls’ hockey teams are joining to become one organization over the coming months.

The Rideau St. Lawrence Thunder, an Edwardsburgh-Cardinal based organization, is merging with the Kemptville District Minor Hockey Association’s (KDMHA) Kemptville Storm program.

The move will see the Thunder’s under-18 double-A and Seniors hockey programs be taken over by the KDMHA, with help from current Thunder staffers.

Members of the organization say the merger will help “improve playing opportunities for female hockey players” in the Leeds-Grenville region.

According to the announcement, the change will come into effect for the 2023-24 season, and the Thunder will switch to Kemptville Storm branding after a short transition period.
