South Nation Conservation water safety statement in effect until Friday

People living in flood-prone areas are being encouraged to make sure their sump pumps are clear and working properly.

A water safety statement is in effect from South Nation Conservation, warning of increased water flows from rainfall and warm temperatures.

According to the organization, the warmer weather could also make ice over bodies of water unsafe to walk on.

If you live in a low-lying or flood-prone area, you’re being urged to make sure the area around your sump pump is clear, and the pump is working properly.

You’re also being urged to make sure you have a backup pump and generator on standby in case you lose power during a flood, and to secure anything in your home that could float away.

The water safety statement is set to end on Friday, January 6th, unless the organization provides an update.
