Leeds-Grenville municipalities declare Significant Weather Event as winter storm begins

Expect to see emergency crews on the roads for the next couple of days.

Several municipalities across the Leeds-Grenville region have declared Significant Weather Events, in response to Environment Canada’s warnings about the winter storm set to hit the area going into the weekend.

According to Environment Canada, heavy rainfall, a possible flash-freeze, and blizzard-like conditions are all expected to hit the region over the course of Friday afternoon, as well as strong winds and blowing snow reducing visibility on the roads.

Residents are being urged to stay home and avoid travel or going out if possible. Power and utility outages are also expected across much of the region.

We’ll be providing updates on power outages on our Facebook page. You can see live forecast updates on Environment Canada’s website.
