Municipal Election: mayor jobs to change hands across Leeds-Grenville and nearby communities

Five communities in or around the Leeds-Grenville region will have different Mayors.

That’s according to the unofficial results from this year’s municipal election, which have been posted to various township and municipality websites.

North Dundas’ incumbent candidate Tony Fraser ran unopposed, while in North Grenville, Nancy Peckford was re-elected as Mayor, with 75 percent of the vote.

To the south, five new Mayors were chosen. Two ran unopposed – Brockville’s Matt Wren and Prescott’s Gauri Shankar.

The election in Edwardsburgh-Cardinal saw Tory Deschamps collect nearly 60 percent of the votes, beating incumbent candidate Pat Sayeau.

In Augusta, incumbent Doug Malanka was narrowly defeated by Jeff Shaver, who took roughly 52 percent of the votes.

Jason Broad won a three-candidate race in South Dundas, where current mayor Steven Byvelds chose not to run for re-election.

The next term of council begins next month, and will last until November 2026.
