Scouts Canada’s Apple Day comes to Kemptville this weekend

If you’re out buying groceries on Saturday, you’ll have a chance to pick up some apples while donating to three local Scouts Canada chapters.

Melanie Low, a Scouts Canada volunteer, says North Grenville Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will be taking part in “Apple Day,” collecting donations from shoppers to fund their programs in exchange for apples, at three Kemptville grocery stores.

“With the different Scouting groups, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, they’re all in different locations, we pool all the donations together, and it’s split pretty much evenly between the groups, and it actually stays right here in North Grenville,” Low explains.

“We can use those funds for crafts, for badges, for outings, it’s directly for the youth,” she adds. “It doesn’t pay anybody’s salary, it doesn’t go to head office, it actually goes to the youth here in North Grenville.”

Low says, unlike other fundraising events Scouts Canada runs, Apple Day is also meant to thank the community for their support.

“The ultimate goal is to just get out there, thank the public for helping us out throughout the year, other fundraisers, and if we receive anything, that’s absolutely great.”

You’ll be able to buy apples from the volunteering Scouts outside Peavey Mart, B&H, or Food Basics, from 9:00 AM until noon on Saturday.
