MPP Steve Clark pledges oath of allegiance to King Charles III

Our region’s MPP has reaffirmed his commitment to the Royal Family.

At Queen’s Park on Wednesday, Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes’ Steve Clark took part in an optional group ceremony, where participating MPPs pledged their allegiance to King Charles III.

The ceremony comes roughly one week after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away at her home in Scotland last Thursday at the age of 96.

MPPs pledged allegiance to the Queen when they were sworn into office earlier this year, after the June provincial election.

Clark, who has represented Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes since winning a 2010 by-election, took to social media afterwards, saying he was “honoured” to swear the oath.

“[The Royal Family’s] reigns are an important example of duty and devotion,” he says, “and an inspiration for all those engaged in public service.”

After yesterday’s session, Ontario’s legislature was adjourned for six weeks, meaning Clark will return to Queen’s Park on October 25th.
