Winchester District Memorial Hospital launches first clinical trial

According to Dr. Mohamed Gazarin, the Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) has reached a major advancement in its research program.

The program has launched its first clinical trial, a three-year study on heart disease.

“Clinical trials are a key research tool for advancing medical knowledge and patient care,” Dr. Gazarin says. “The knowledge gained will support the treatment we will provide in the years to come.”

Gazarin says the study is focusing on “Transthyretin Amyloid Cardiomyopathy,” a kind of stiffening and thickening of the heart muscles also called “ATTR-CM.”

The goal of the study is to estimate how common ATTR-CM is globally by looking for it in patients who experience heart failure.

“Knowing how prevalent the disease is will allow for further investigation into early diagnosis and treatment,” says Dr. Gazarin. “We are very proud of our commitment to this type of important research, especially for rural communities.

The hospital’s website has a dedicated clinical trials page you can visit if you want to learn more.
