Mollypenny, CHEO’s therapeutic clown, leaving hospital this October

After 21 years with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), a beloved clown is returning home.

The hospital announced Thursday morning that Mollypenny, the therapeutic clown that’s been helping young patients since 2001, is leaving to “join her good friends in Galaxy Sprinkle” this fall.

“It’s time to climb aboard the spaceship MollyPop and travel into the future,” she says.

Mollypenny also says she’s thankful to have learned so much from the kids she’s worked with over the years. “I am thankful for their gifts of knowledge and laughter,” she explains. “It means the world, the galaxy, to me.”

CHEO Chief Executive Officer and President Alex Munter says he’s extremely grateful for the time Mollypenny has spent at the hospital, helping kids and their families feel better during a difficult time in their lives.

“It’s such an understatement, but we will miss her,” Munter says. “She is a star. And she belongs with all the other stars in her new home galaxy.”

If you or your child want to tell Mollypenny goodbye before she leaves, CHEO’s website has information on how to send her a message, either by mail or online.
