Joel Stone Beach in Gananoque is safe for swimming again, but there’s still one beach in the Leeds-Grenville area you should avoid.
That’s according to the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit’s latest beach water monitoring program results.
The initiative tests water samples from local beaches every week for E. coli, a bacteria that can give swimmers’ ear, eye and throat infections when they’re exposed to it in high concentrations.
This week, Merrickville Beach has been listed as unsafe by the organization, alongside three other beaches in Lanark County.
They’ve all been added to an online list of unsafe beaches on the Health Unit website, and signs have been posted warning swimmers to go elsewhere.
The organization posts the results of its monitoring program online once a week until the end of August.
