North Grenville to see a tax rate increase of 6.18% in 2015

The good news is, we have a balanced budget. The bad news is, the recommended tax increase to achieve this is 6.18% over last year. North Grenville municipal staff faced four key challenges this year in drafting the 2015 budget. CAO Brian Carre outlined them at the Jan. 26 council meeting:

Our Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund was reduced by 20% or over a quarter million dollars. Operating costs have increased higher than the rate of inflation. Our aging infrastructure will require maintenance, and our municipal contribution to Kemptville District Hospital is set to double from $50,000 to $100,000 this year. In total, these factors have resulted in a tax rate increase of 6.18% over 2014.

The tax rate increase is over and above increases to individual property assessments by MPAC. The final draft municipal budget is available at www.northgrenville.on.ca.
