North Grenville appoints new alternate representative for United Counties council

Councillor Doreen O’Sullivan will now represent North Grenville at United Counties council meetings when Mayor Peckford can’t attend.

O’Sullivan has been named the municipality’s alternate representative at a special North Grenville council meeting Thursday afternoon.

Mayor Nancy Peckford says the position was previously held by former Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman.

“That being said,” she says, “he has left us, and we had not updated the by-law subsequent to his departure.” McManaman moved away from North Grenville in February.

According to Mayor Peckford, alternate representatives aren’t needed frequently, but a surprise Special Council meeting for the United Counties announced on Tuesday conflicted with some of her existing plans.

“I have long planned to be in Newfoundland this weekend,” Peckford says. “I am currently at a stopover in Moncton, and will be flying from Halifax to Saint John’s tomorrow with my daughter for a family weekend that we planned several months ago.”

O’Sullivan will be the alternate representative for the rest of the current council’s term. Municipal Election Day is October 24th.
