Municipality of North Grenville offering safety advice amid coyote sightings

“If you see a coyote, keep your distance and the animal will most likely avoid you.”

That’s from the Municipality of North Grenville, which announced Wednesday that some coyotes have recently been sighted in town.

According to the announcement, the animals were seen on the trails near the Kemptville Campus.

If you see a coyote that’s aggressive, Municipality staff say you should avoid approaching or running away from it.

Instead, you should back away slowly and calmly, or stand tall, make noise, and wave your arms to scare it away.

Staff also suggest carrying a flashlight to scare them off if you plan to go out at night.

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has an online guide for dealing with wild coyotes that you can read here for more information.
