Fat Les’s locations raising money for CHEO June 15th

You’ll have a chance to contribute to healthcare for sick children when you go out for lunch next Wednesday.

Les Winters, the owner of the “Fat Les’s” chip truck and restaurant chain, says money from all sales of its two hot dog combo that day, from 11:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon, will be donated to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).

Winters says supporting CHEO is extremely important to him, because of a family member.

“Every time I talk about it, it gets me a bit choked up, but my niece, Cheyenne, was diagnosed with cancer when she was just a very little infant,” Winters says, “and she’s had several surgeries since then.”

“She has brain cancer, and CHEO’s been home for my brother and his ex-wife to be there for her, while she goes through all her surgeries and her time there. In a way, it’s like it’s their home away from home.”

According to Winters, the details are still being finalized, but he expects the fundraiser to be available at every Fat Les’s location.

He also says the Barrhaven chip stand will be collecting donations all day, and also putting the sales from a chicken barbecue combo that day towards CHEO.

“Cash is best,” Winters says, “because if it goes through my debit machine, I need to charge tax. It becomes an issue. The easiest part is to just throw ten bucks of cash in, and it’s all gonna go to CHEO for sure.”

You can find the chip stand closest to where you live or work by visiting the Fat Les’s website.
