Grenville County Ontario Provincial Police are assisting in a Coroner’s Investigation involving the death of a 23 year old woman. Shortly after 3am. on Sunday, January 18th, Police received a report of a woman with no vital signs at a Kemptville residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem has been completed and police are awaiting toxicology results. The initial investigation found illegal substances, believed to be ecstasy (also known as MDMA OR “Molly”) were located at the residence.
Police are warning the public about the dangers of ecstasy. The typical rapid rise in body temperature can cause liver, kidney, heart failure or sudden death.
MDMA can cause problems with the body’s ability to regulate temperature, particularly when it is used in active or hot temperature settings. On rare occasions, this can lead to a sharp rise in body temperature, known as hyperthermia, which can cause liver, kidney, heart failure or death.
Other effects of MDMA include:
Increases in heart rate and blood temperature
Muscle tension
Teeth clenching
Nausea
Blurred vision
Faintness
Chills or sweating
Higher body temperature (leading to heart. Liver or kidney problems)
Increased risk for unsafe sex
MDMA does not always break down in the body and can interfere with its own metabolism. This can cause harmful levels of the drug to build up in the body if it is taken repeatedly within short periods of time. High levels of MDMA in the bloodstream can increase the risk for seizures and affect the heart’s ability to beat normally.
Any signs of distress or illness should be dealt with immediately by calling “911”.
