North Grenville dog license price increasing March 31

If you haven’t renewed your license to keep your furry friend yet this year, the municipality says you should apply for renewal as soon as you can.

North Grenville by-laws say you need a license to own any dog that’s at least six months old, except for guide dogs and police dogs. The license, which comes with a tag your dog needs to wear on its collar at all times, expires on December 31st of every year.

If your dog gets off its leash and runs away, it may get caught and taken to the pound, where you’ll need the dog to be registered with the municipality to get it back. Registering your dogs also helps police and municipal workers identify your dog if it goes missing. Getting caught with an unlicensed dog also carries a fine of more than $100.

Until March 31st, getting your dog registered and renewing your license costs $15 per dog. If you aren’t able to get your dog licensed before then, or you get a new dog later in the year, it’ll cost $30 to get them licensed from April 1st until the end of the year. You can purchase a license on the North Grenville website.
