North Grenville warning of increased sodium in Kemptville water supply

If you suffer from high blood pressure, and you live in Kemptville, you might want to avoid drinking tap water.

The Municipality of North Grenville says it’s detecting more sodium than usual in all four of the town’s water pumping stations.

All the water in the town’s supply is still well within the standard to be considered safe to drink, but the town says the sodium levels are high enough that they’ve been reported to the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit.

The municipality says the amount is negligible for most people, but may impact the diets of people on sodium-restricted diets due to health conditions like hypertension or congestive heart failure.

If you get your water from Kemptville, and you’re on a sodium-restricted diet, the Health Unit says you should contact your doctor.
