Third floor of Merrickville’s Baldachin Inn partially collapses

The Baldachin Inn in Merrickville is temporarily closed after part of the building’s third floor collapsed.

The partial collapse happened on the morning of January 13th. Firefighters from the Merrickville Fire Department were joined on the scene by Grenville County OPP officers and paramedics from the Lanark County Paramedic Service to help with the aftermath.

Some other nearby businesses are also closed because of the collapse. “We cannot access our shop,” says the owner of Pickle and Myrrh, a candy store next to the inn. “We will keep everyone posted as information comes in. Our shop and staff are all ok. Sending thoughts to our neighbours at this time.”

The cause of the collapse hasn’t been revealed. We’ve reached out to the Grenville County OPP detachment to learn more.
