Moose FM organizing Salvation Army Radiothon December 10th

“We’ve seen a drastic increase in the levels of people accessing services, in the past year, since the pandemic hit.”

That’s Erin Wong, a member of the Salvation Army, speaking about the community’s need for her organization’s food bank and thrift store. Moose FM is organizing its 9th annual Radiothon in partnership with the Army’s Kemptville branch, to raise money for the organization, which supports low income people and families in the area.

Wong says one of the biggest struggles her team has faced recently is meeting people’s housing needs. “We’ve experienced a lot of people with housing insecurity and precarious housing,” Wong says, “and so it’s been a real challenge to be able to find people safe, warm places to stay in emergency situations.”

To help collect more donations at the Radiothon, Wong and her colleagues at the Kemptville Salvation Army have put together a “Make it Snow” promotion. “If you come into the store, and you provide a $20 donation or more,” Wong says, “you have the opportunity to make it snow inside the store. When you do that, we actually have a snow machine that will allow snow to fall inside, we’ll get a photo of you under the snow falling and we’ll post it on our social media.”

If you’re interested in donating to the Radiothon, visit the Moose FM team at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Kemptville on December 10th. The event will run for 12 hours, starting at 6:00 AM.
