North Grenville Fire Chief John Okum says everyone in the building on Prescott Street that caught fire Wednesday morning got out safely.
“There were no injuries,” Chief Okum says. “Everyone self-evacuated. There’s a couple pets, we were able to get a couple pets, and their pets are safe inside now.”
Chief Okum also says the cause of the fire, which happened in the apartment above the Prescott Street Home Hardware building at roughly 9:00 in the morning, is still being looked into. “The fire department on scene is just getting the fire under control,” Okum says, “and following that, we will do an investigation of the occurrence.”
Because of the fire, a stretch of Prescott Street between Reuben Crescent South and Reuben Crescent north was closed while firefighters got the situation under control. The road reopened roughly two hours after the start of the fire.
