Health Unit: Vaccine booking for kids available now, doses don’t arrive until November 26th

With parents now able to book COVID-19 vaccine appointments for younger kids, our local health unit is outlining when shots will start going in arms.

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit’s Communications Coordinator, Susan Healey, says even though parents can book an appointment right away, local clinics don’t currently have any of the smaller doses of the vaccine that will be given to children. “We won’t receive the vaccine for ages 5 to 11 before Friday [November 26th],” says Healey.

Some local vaccine clinics, including the North Grenville COVID-19 Assessment Centre in Kemptville, have accidentally allowed parents to book appointments for their children as early as Wednesday. The Kemptville clinic is asking parents to reschedule their child’s appointment if they already booked one for before the vaccines will arrive. “We will not have the pediatric doses available at that time,” the North Grenville COVID-19 Assessment Centre says in a Facebook post, “and will not be able to honor your child’s appointment.”

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit’s website has a detailed breakdown of what vaccine clinics in the area will be immunizing children starting on Friday, and throughout the following week.
