“We have folks who can’t even afford rent”: MP-elect Michael Barrett on affordable housing

In an exclusive interview with MyKemptvilleNow.com, Michael Barrett, the Conservative MP-elect for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, talked about the need for affordable housing in our community.

“The government made very ambitious commitments during the election,” Barrett says, “and so I’m looking for them to address the housing shortage, but also affordability. We have folks who can’t even afford rent, to say nothing of the skyrocketing prices and the out-of-reach nature of the home ownership market.”

“That’s a lot of work for the government to do,” Barrett continues, “and we’ve made pretty specific proposals in our platform, and those are some things that we’ll encourage the government to incorporate into addressing affordable housing.”

Barrett has served as the MP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes since winning the 2018 by-election. In this year’s election, Barrett won with just over 50 per-cent of the vote.
