Fire Prevention Week events scheduled in Kemptville from October 3-9

The North Grenville Fire Department is preparing for Fire Prevention Week again this year. In an exclusive interview with MyKemptvilleNow.com, Fire Prevention Officer Shannon Armitage discussed some of what the department plans to do.

“We’re starting off with an outdoor open house,” Armitage said. “We’re gonna have all the trucks on display. We want people to come by, see the trucks, and visit with our firefighters. You’re gonna have the opportunity to use a fire extinguisher, spray some water, maybe meet Sparky [the Fire Dog], it’s gonna be fantastic.”

Armitage also said that, in addition to the open house, other events are being planned by the department, “Also, on Thursday night, October 7th, we’re going to be hosting an open house to any person who’s thinking about becoming a volunteer firefighter. We’re inviting those people to come by and see what we’re all about. That’s at station 1, 7:00 pm.”

“To end Fire Prevention Week,” Armitage continued, “we’re gonna be ending it off with a bang, with the Fill the Boot Campaign. This is a 65-year-old tradition between firefighters and [Muscular Dystrophy Canada], to raise awareness and to raise donations. Firefighters pick certain locations around town, and they pass the boot, to raise donations.” Armitage says 100 per cent of the proceeds from the Fill the Boot Campaign will go towards the charity.

Fire Prevention Week runs from October 3rd to October 9th. The open house is on the 4th, starting at 5:00 PM.
