St. Michael Catholic High School Holding Drive-By Graduations

High school students in the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario will not be graduating in person this year.

Head of Communications at St. Michael Catholic High School in Kemptville Chris Finner says they are planning drive-by celebrations with each graduate having an opportunity to wear the cap and gown, receive their diploma, and take photos.

“We tried to include some sort of an experience with a photo opportunity,” Finner said. “Something that is a little more of a human touch, but unfortunately not a full-out graduation in the field.”

Parents and students will be asked to sign up for a specific time slot for this opportunity, and Finner says details will be sent to families of graduating students.

He says while it’s unfortunate that the students and parents are missing out on an in-person graduation, most of them have been fairly understanding.

“The situation is what it is and I think most people have been resilient and resigned to the fact that we have to adapt and pivot on the spot, and try and figure out the best way,” Finner said. Our priority is always student’s safety.”

Finner says staff at the school is very proud of its graduates, and they plan to ensure they feel celebrated while still respecting the health and safety protocols.

To plan your drive-by, you should contact the school.
