NCC: Rideau Canal Skateway not quite ready for skaters yet, but close

This week’s deep freeze is going to go a long way to help firm up the ice on the Rideau Canal. The National Capital Commission already has crews working on the world’s longest skating rink, but reports say the ice isn’t quite ready yet. They have cleared the snow and are smoothing out the ridges and bumps and signage will go up both on site and on their website when it’s safe to lace up your skates.

Every winter, residents of and visitors to Ottawa skate the 7.8 km from Dow’s Lake to the National Arts Centre on the canal, which is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site.
