Summer Programming Set To Launch At Kemptville Youth Centre

Staff at the Kemptville Youth Centre is reminding youth that summer programs are on the way even though the centre is closed to the public right now.

The centre serves youth 12-18 years old.

Operations Manager for the Centre Barb Tobin says they hope to offer outdoor activities soon.

“We certainly believe by July that we’ll have a number of outdoor activities, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming,” Tobin said. “And we’re hoping by mid-summer, we’ll be able to get inside the centre, so kids have a place to hangout.”

Tobin says they are still waiting for approval from the province and the health unit before they can resume programming.

She adds it’s their mandate to provide a safe space that contributes to positive mental, physical, and social development in young people.

“We are a safe space for youth in the community,” Tobin said. “We provide refreshments, sports, arts and crafts, but the bottom line for the programming is that the space is open for you to come and enjoy yourself with your friends.”

Once open, operating hours will be Monday to Friday from 12:30-5:30 p.m.

Anyone looking for more information about the summer program’s can reach out through the Kemptville Youth Centre’s Facebook page.
