Kemptville mourns passing of Andy Parent

The community is mourning the passing of Andy Parent.  Andy passed away on Thursday after what his family is calling “a courageous battle.”  Andy and his wife Catherine were married for 29 years and had four children.

Andy founded Kemptville’s Big Sky Ranch Animal Sanctuary in 2002. Big Sky Ranch started as a hobby farm but soon grew into a “Safe Haven” for animals.  Domestic animals and larger farm animals along with birds and domestic fowl have been rescued by the Parent family, either because they had been abandoned by their owners or did not fit into regular rescue protocols.  According to Big Ranch’s website to date, they have rehabilitated 3,500 animals.

Andy’s obituary on the Capital Cemetery and Funeral Home website honours him as a “Big Brother” and a dear friend to all who knew him.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a funeral service will not be held.  However, if you would like to pay your respects to Andy and his family donations are being gratefully accepted to the Big Sky Ranch Animal Sanctuary or the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, research.
