North Grenville Curling Club Hosting Online Auction

An online auction has been announced for the North Grenville Curling Club.

The club has been closed this season due to COVID-19, and the impacts have been felt financially, as it has to pay expenses until revenue resumes with the next curling season.

As a result, the club has opted to host an online auction, with proceeds going to help it continue its operations.

Nancy LeBrun is a volunteer with the club’s fundraising committee and she says with the pandemic keeping people home more than ever – they felt an online auction was the best way to make a profit.

“It helps us maintain and keep our club open whenever the time comes to curl again, which it will,” LeBrun said. “And we thought it’s a good time. More people are on their screens, their phones and their tablets than ever before.”

The auction will be online via the North Grenville Curling Club Facebook page and anyone can participate.

Some of the packages up for grabs include passes at Rideau Glen and EQuinelle golf clubs, a float plane ride, gift certificates for businesses in the community, and art pieces from local artists.

LeBrun says the club felt it needed to do this in order to show support for its senior members.

“Because we have older members who play curling, and although COVID is currently affecting anyone at any age, at the time last Fall, it was unfortunate because we have a lot of elderly people who love curling but we can’t take any chances,” she said.

Items will be available for “preview” 24 hours prior and more items could be added as the auction goes on.

The auction begins on Thursday at 12 p.m., and runs until May 5th.
