Kemptville Legion Br. 212 presents $500 to support WWI Trench Project

Teacher Fred Bortolussi and the rest of the History Department at St. Michael Catholic High School have been given $500 from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 212 so that they can continue their World War One trench project. The annual project involves the construction of authentic WWI trenches along with a bunker. Then students spend the night in the trenches, pulling sentry duty, repairing trenches and carrying out simple tasks, all while under the barrage of simulated gunfire. Teacher Fred Bortolussi received a Certificate of Appreciation from the school board for his commitment to this hands-on history lesson. The donation from the Legion comes in recognition of the 100th Anniversary of the Great War.
