Possible Name Change Being Looked At For Kemptville Creek

Residents are being asked to provide input regarding a possible name change for Kemptville Creek.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry are seeking feedback on the body of water’s name via an online questionnaire – after the Ontario Geographic Names Board received a request to change its name.

The request was submitted by a local resident who has applied to change the name to the South Branch River, stating that it is a better known name for the waterway, and has been for a longer time.

According to Ontario’s historical geographic names records, it was officially named South Kemptville Creek from 1947 until 1978, when it was changed to Kemptville Creek.

As part of the review process, the MNRF says it needs to connect with people and determine if they support the proposed name.

Feedback from local residents helps the board to decide whether or not to recommend a name change to the Minister for approval.

The MNRF says it is also consulting with municipalities, First Nations, and local organizations before coming to a decision.
