KDMHA Readies For Return To Play

Local hockey in Kemptville is resuming operations this week.

With the province’s loosening restrictions, the Kemptville District Minor Hockey Association has begun its programming for the delayed 2021 season.

League President Stacey Seymour says after months of uncertainty, they’re thrilled to be able to offer hockey to youth in the community again.

“We know how hard this has been on everyone and we were just so thankful to be able to get back on the ice,” Seymour said. “We were ready to go once the Province was ready to open. We have been so thankful to have a Municipality that wants our players on the ice and has supported us in getting players on the ice.”

Due to the delays, the league’s executive board says it will focus this year on player development, with the season cut short due to the pandemic.

Seymour says while resuming operations is exciting news, the next steps for the league are not so clear.

We are still hoping for a regular return to hockey for next season where league play will happen,” she said. “The best thing is that we have learned to adapt and quickly so if things change we can change with it. Our goal remains the same, to provide hockey – no matter what it looks like – to our players.”

Seymour says the league will be operating in compliance with public health and the higher governing bodies of minor hockey.

This will include COVID-screening of players, coaches and other staff.

The KDMHA is set to resume operations on Thursday and you can find more on their safe-return plan here.
