The Downtown Kemptville Community Action Plan (DKCAP) is now available for public feedback.
North Grenville announced its plan for the downtown core which addresses present issues and future opportunities for the area.
Mayor Nancy Peckford says they want to make downtown a place people can live, work and grow.
“While we’ve seen some growth happen downtown in terms of detached single family homes, we’d like to see some high quality, multi-residential units that get more people downtown and offer some really quality affordable living options,” Peckford said.
The concept of creating a Community Action Plan for downtown is to look more comprehensively at the factors that influence the health and vitality of the area.
Peckford says the plan also intends to provide a work plan to establish flexible planning requirements and standards to facilitate creative investment.
“The more activity we have downtown, the more taxes that are generated, the more it supports our local economy, and the more it sort of creates a meeting space for all our residents in North Grenville to come and connect with each other and really have a quality experience,” Peckford said.
Until now, Peckford feels property owners and residents have lacked the tools to fulfill the vision for downtown.
She feels the DKCAP gives them exactly what they need to grow and prosper.
“People go to Merrickville, they go to Perth, they go to Smith’s Falls, in order to have a ‘downtown experience,’” Peckford said. “And really we want those same people to understand what a quality experience they can have in their own downtown.”
Peckford says the final plan is intended to create a framework for the desired development and redevelopment investment of downtown.
You can view the plan and provide feedback until February 17, on the municipality’s website.
