OPP has released details on how they will enforce the stay at home order.
Police say they will be focusing on businesses and restaurants, complaints from the public and outdoor gatherings above the limit of 5 people. They say that individuals who are non-compliant can face fines or jail time under the Reopening Ontario Act and the EMPCA. They say that fines can start at $750 for failing to comply with an order, and $1000 for preventing others, like employees and individuals, from following the order. A maximum fine for an individual is $100,000 and $10 million for a corporation
OPP say that officers will not randomly stop an individual or vehicle, nor enter a dwelling, to check to see if someone is breaking the rules. Essential workers are not expected to carry proof of their work, but officers will ask people to identify themselves if they have grounds to believe someone is breaking the act.
They say that 911 should only be used for emergencies. To report those breaking the emergency order, call your local OPP branch.
