St. Mike's Mustang volleyball season off to a great start

The St. Michael Mustangs travelled to North Grenville on December 3rd for their first LGSSAA volleyball tournament.
In senior action, the Mustangs faced off against the cross town rival North Grenville Knights and won the first set 25-19 before dominating the next two sets 25-9 and 25-11. Their next opponent was Brockville Collegiate Institute, and once again the Mustangs handily defeated the Brockville opponent 25-18, 25- 13 and 25-16. Strong team serving was the story of the day with excellent performances from Shanel Quenneville and Linsay van Koppen. Ally Kingsbury provided strong passing while Michelle Wilson led the team in kills. The seniors start the season with a perfect 6-0 record in league play and look forward to a tournament this weekend at De la Salle in Ottawa.

The Junior team also had an excellent start to the season by winning 3 straight sets against the cross town rival North Grenville, 25-18, 25-14 and 25-23. The following match against BCI was a tougher challenge as they won the first set 25-9, before dropping a close one 26-24 in the second set. In the 3rd and deciding set, the junior Mustangs won 25-18 to win the best of 3 match. Strong serving from Natasha Lapenskie, Megan O’Connell and Grace Besserer, along with big hits from Tatiana Weissflog and Brooke Cornel led the team to victory. The juniors are off to Napanee on Monday to play in their first exhibition tournament of the season.
